the US can not afford this war. The US gross national debt exceeded $39 trillion for the first time in March 2026, and the federal government borrowed $1 trillion in just the first five months of the current fiscal year. The debt has been growing at a rate of roughly $7.2 billion per day, and has increased by nearly $11 trillion over the past five years. Several major government trust funds are approaching insolvency, with the Social Security retirement trust fund projected to run dry by 2032. Why is President Trump spending more on this war? Iran wasn’t really a threat to the mainland USA—to the US troops stationed in the mid east, yes.
“the US can not afford this war. “
We can not afford to not have this war.
“Iran wasn’t really a threat to the mainland USA”
Of course you don’t mind that in a few years they would.
Because the people wanting it for the most part either expect to make money from it, are old and don’t seem to give a shit about their grandchildren growing up in a country drowning in debt, or they simply know they aren’t actually putting themselves at any risk
Then there is the 10% who are willing to fight it for whatever reasons they have and at least have the balls to be willing to go do it themselves
I love what President Trump is doing to keep us safe, but he has never seemed to be interested in addressing the spiraling national debt. DOGE cut only a miniscule amount of money printing.
I know that Congress is the real villain here but the president could use his bully pulpit to get the ball rolling.
The debt will kill us before Iran does.

Never underestimate the value of real world experience.
