I've come to the same conclusion. I used to have a liberal friend, and we'd debate. I'd make a point that she hadn't considered, and I could see her erase it from her mind right in front of me. Her eyes would go kind of distant for a second, and when they came back, it would be as if I hadn't said anything.
Back in the ‘80s, an army buddy from NY would start shouting “Attica, Attica!” or “Fascist!” when losing a debate on facts.
