Great article.
Conservatives want to keep what they have (earnings, liberties, babies, their country, raditional morality, values, etc.). Conservatives tend towards self-reliance (small government, financial independence, no welfare, private enterprise, self-defense) and expect other people to behave responsibly.
Leftists want to take what others have. They become anxious and crazed when told NO. Because they feel inadequate to compete in a free society, Leftists want state intervention (welfare, government-run healthcare, socialist economics, unions, etc.). They believe in a mythology wherein they have been robbed of wealth and power by capitalism and the rich — which makes them angry, resentful, and hateful. They see collective coercion and violence as “taking back” what is “theirs”. Cheating in elections, gerrymandering, etc., seems only fair to them to counter the effects of wealth on democracy.
A good man sees greatness in others and is inspired to better himself.
A mediocre man sees greatness in others and feels depressed by his own perceived inadequacy.
A bad man sees greatness in others and flies into a fury of destruction, seeking to drag the great men down into the sewer where he himself dwells.
