The first offshore oil well was drilled off a pier near Santa Barbara in about 1900. California was America’s largest oil producer until about 1930. In the mid 20th Century, ARCO considered installing a giant funnel in the water off the beaches to capture the natural oil seeping from the sea bed.
There is a lot of oil out there.
It’s amazing, if true, that Sable can restart mothballed facilities so soon.
They have been maintaining them apparently, so in the event they can switch it on, they would be able to in short time.
Someone here on FR told me it would take months if not years to restart drilling operations so it must be true. /s
