We recently rented an AirBNB in San Francisco (my grandkids are there) - VERY expensive for such a small place -; and the “cleaning fee” was $300, even though we left the place spotless and there wasn’t a lot to clean.
The charge for cleaning an entire home is $200 in my area for a 1600 sq.ft. home.
Hotels are starting to look better and better...
When Airbnb was young it was great. I used them for nearly three years straight living in Europe. Then, when corporations started buying up every scrap of property and converting them to airbnbs the ridiculous fees started. 3 r4 5 hundred to clean a studio apartment after a 2 day stay? No thanks.
My brother and his family live at the Oregon coast. Every house within 2 blocks of the beach is owned by the same two Airbnb companies. And Oregon beaches are not sunny warm sunbathing spots with cool little beach towns. Like with most internet things, they started great, and ended up crappy. (YouTube, Google, EBay.”
I have no sympathy for the short-term rental market.
