Do high schoolers work anymore? That’s where we learned to develop a work ethic. And if you didn’t have a job in high school, you were a loser.

Labor laws and “immigrants” (living wage) have pretty much deleted work for high schoolers.

LOL!

I think every generation has its share of slackers.

“Apprenticeship” is something that an individual needs and is also responsible to recognize and grab the "Bull by the Horns" as they say. (Hold on for a minute. Chicks are talking after the Pistons game, and I have to change the channel). Anyway. I built a career and it took some time but it paid off. Cant save everyone. The world needs ditch diggers also.

Kids don’t work in high school anymore. The focus in high school is getting into college. To do that they must do volunteer work, have a sport and be involved in school clubs, newspapers or student government.

Unfortunately, half the kids going to college these days shouldn’t be there. Even recent admits at Harvard need remedial math and English, something like 30% IIRC.

In high schools today, everything is a group project where one student does all the work and the teacher only has to grade one project.students want their jobs to be group projects too. The no fail grading system is also a huge problem.kids figure out how to barely pass with minimum effort.

“Do high schoolers work anymore?”

No, they don’t. Minimum wage laws have priced them out of the job market.

If I didn't work, I couldn't afford gas or beer money!

We were working picking crops for the local farmers when we were 14 and could get a Work Permit.

When we were older and school wasn’t in session, we were working two jobs.

The current Gen Z losers are the fault of the parents.

My nephew has three daughters, ages 16, 14, and 10. Their mom never asks then to help with dishes, set the table, etc. They’re curled up on the sofa, glued to devices.

Now our neighbors have two teenage boys. They’re hers from a prior marriage. She flipped her lid when her husband told them to mow the lawn. She doesn’t want them ‘doing those kinds of jobs”. (They do no jobs.)
