“...I detested these hippies...”
-
I was a hippy, national guardsman, college student all at the same time.
Interesting times they were.
LOL! Boy, talk about crossing streams!
I was living somewhat of an insular life on a military base overseas at the height of the Vietnam war, and I hero-worshiped my dad, who was the XO of the base over in the Philippines.
That was my dad and my friend’s dads they were denigrating and calling them all kinds of names and it really made me angry.
One of my sisters became a total hippie squatting on land up in Northern Vermont in a commune with no electricity or running water (and one of the other hippies up there was Linda Kasabian!) another brother followed the hippie path closely but raising a family and paying taxes eventually made him a conservative, and another brother became a full-on Leftist.
Sigh. We all go our own way in life...you ended up here on Free Republic on my side...I think!
We had a guy in our dorm in ‘70 at Maryland.
He was a Viet Nam vet and joined the national guard when he got out.
They called out the nat guard for the spring riots and he ended up living
in a tent in Greenbeit Park and guarding the computer center across the street
from our dorm.
Strange days indeed
