“Isn’t it amazing how people panic, stop thinking logically and flee the scene?”

Dumb people live minute to minute.

"Lam." That's a good word. Can I use that?

Why in the world steal a tow truck to then go steal an SUV? Why not just steal the SUV in the first place?

I just thought about that for a minute. Maybe it’s a lot easier to steal an unprotected low-tech tow truck than it is to steal a high-end SUV with all the latest anti-theft devices. That might make sense.

That reminds me of a time when I was behind a pickup with some large object on a pallet in the back. The load wasn’t secured, the truck hit a bump, and the object jumped up and landed on the road right in front of me. It skidded across 3 lanes to the right and ended up on the shoulder. Miraculously no one hit it. The pickup kept going until they started to wonder what happened to their load. Last I saw of those idiots they were driving in reverse on the shoulder.

Somebody contracted to have that specific car towed. They will simply backtrack from the vehicle records of ownership to find out who requested the tow, owner or lienholder.

If it was an illegal, he may have abandoned the tow truck and left the state already.

A targeted theft of a high-value SUV was precisely what I had in mind, though thoughts on this are for entertainment only. The tow truck might not have been stolen so much as “borrowed” by an employee, then things went awry.

Hubby and I were on our way to Lookout Point in Colorado.
This back in the late 1980s.
I noticed that we could see the cars above us as they drove
around that tightly curved road.

We saw a sign that read “BEWARE OF FALLING ROCKS.”
I said “It should say BEWARE OF FALLING CARS.”

All of a sudden the car above missed the turn and fell
on its roof, and landed in the road directly in front of us!
BANG! CRASH! EXPLODING GLASS! ROLLING CLOUDS OF RED DUST..
and then, an eerie silence.

We looked at each other for a minute, and then bolted out
of our car and ran to check on the driver.

He was a young high school aged kid.
He was already climbing out, and had a serious gash on
his right fore arm, but that was it!

His vehicle was a small red Subaru styled station wagon.
We told him to sit down and stop moving around!
Cop told us the kid was okay, and WE were lucky it did
not land on top of US!

Many guardian angels were very busy that day..
P.S.
I never did wear that particular pair of jeans again, as
I had an “accident” of my own!
*wink*
*evil grin*

Best or worst travel related accident involved a tow truck and a flywheel dislodged on I 95 north around the airport i believe. The flywheel bounced off the truck over the guard rail into the oncoming lane and decapitated the driver going the other way. At 50 MPH both ways the flywheel was going about 100 MPH.

The way my buddy always did it was to loop the seat belts
through the steering wheel and and connect them to the buckle.

If the truck or SUV were stolen, this would technically be felony murder, although who knows how they would prosecute it in Philadelphia.

Why in the world steal a tow truck...

Professional car thieves often use a tow truck to grab cars. No need to get the car running, and nobody suspects that a tow truck picking up a car is actually stealing the car.

And then the stolen car disappears into a chop shop or a container bound for a foreign country.
