When it comes to striking Iran, Donald Trump has been consistent for 47 years. Look at this clip from October 1980 when he called for military intervention to free American hostages taken during the Iranian Revolution. Also FYI: during his 2016,2020 and 2024 presidential campaigns, he consistently said multiple times that Iran “will never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.” Below is the 1980 transcript:

I honestly don’t think they’d do it with other countries.”
Rona Barrett: “Obviously you’re advocating that we should have gone in there with troops et cetera and brought our boys out.”
Donald Trump: “I absolutely feel that yes. I don’t think there’s any question in it, there’s no question in my mind. I think right now we’d be an oil-rich nation and I believe that we should have done it and I’m very disappointed that we didn’t do it and i don’t think anybody would have held us in abeyance. I don’t think anybody would have been angry with us and we had every right to do it at the time. I think we’ve lost the opportunity.”

The disciplined communications strategy coming out of the Pentagon right now is unlike anything I have seen in my decades of watching this institution, and I have seen a lot (especially leaks).
