My problem with your analysis is where you said their population loves the US. If that is so, why did so many chant “death to America” every night during the hostage crisis, and more importantly, why did millions (some estimates go as high as 6 million) welcome the Ayatollah’s return to Iran from France and the establishment of an Islamic state?

Excellent questions. Books have been written on the topic. I will give you my opinion.
I know, for a FACT, that the Soviet Union had camps in Syria, where brainwashed Iranian leftists got terrorist training. Soviet Union had infiltrated student movements in Iran, and also in the US.
Simply put, Iranians were duped, as was Carter.
The Shah had his flaws. But we’re talking about the middle east in the height of the cold war. And he made mistakes.
But now, after 47 years, Iranian people are sick of the Mullahs, of inflation, of having no electricity in the summer and no gas in the winter, of seeing a leadership elbow-deep in corruption, of seeing their nation’s wealth handed to Hezbollah and Hamas and the Houthis.
That is why millions of Iranians who came out six weeks ago when the son of the Shah asked for street demonstrations.
