As part of the plea bargain, the Justice Department agreed not to charge Epstein with Federal charges if he pled guilty to the one state charge of sex trafficking. The Palm Beach County district attorney who prosecuted Epstein was Barry Krischer, a Democrat. That is not uncommon, as there are often parallel Federal and state statutes covering a particular crime. You must remember that Epstein had friends in high places. The U.S. Attorney who set up the plea deal, Alexander Acosta, went into the private sector but became the first Trump Administration as Secretary of Labor. He left that office in 2019 following the second Epstein arrest. Acosta is currently on the board of directors of Newsmax, the conservative broadcaster.
