As of February 2026, Susan Rice is not holding a government position but is a member of the board of directors for Netflix and a fellow at Stanford. Based on recent comments, if Democrats were to take control of Congress in the midterms, Susan Rice is positioning herself as a key figure in holding corporations and institutions accountable for their actions during the Trump administration.

Here is what her role could entail based on her recent remarks:

“Accountability Agenda” Leader: Rice has stated that if Democrats regain power, there will be an “accountability agenda” for corporations, law firms, and media organizations that “bent the knee” to Donald Trump.

Congressional Oversight/Subpoenas: She has indicated that these institutions should prepare for investigations, saying, “They better be ready for subpoenas. If they’ve done something wrong, they’ll be held accountable”.

No “Forgive and Forget”: Rice has suggested that the Democratic approach would not be to overlook actions taken by corporations that supported the previous administration.

Context for Potential Role:
Rice served as President Biden’s Domestic Policy Council Director (2021-2023) and President Obama’s National Security Advisor (2013-2017), giving her extensive experience in government, which she could leverage to guide congressional investigations or policy, according to 1.2.1 and 1.3.3.

Her focus on an “accountability agenda” has already made her a target of opposition, with calls for her removal from the Netflix board.

It is not currently confirmed that she would return to a formal government role (such as a Cabinet position), but she appears to be shaping the narrative for a “return to power” strategy for Democrats in 2026.
