He wasn’t exaggerating about the other stuff.

The air wing of the Army is pretty big as well. And also the Marine Corps.

I recall a college friend telling me that the new tech he was dealing with at 25 years into the Army was “Battlestar Galactica” stuff. And that was more than a decade ago. I cannot imagine how advanced it is now.

Unless things have changed, when I was in it was 99% rotary of some kind and a handful of fixed wing. Probably more drones now than then, but still ground support mission.

Attack helicopters et al are cool and I’m alive due to their support and evacuation, but a 80 year old P51 vs an Apache, I’d probably bet on the WWII tech. I think a helicopter took out one Mig during the very first gulf war, but I think it was kind of a fluke.

I am sure if the SHTF against a “real enemy” and not just goat humpers with AK’s and IED’s or drug runners, we have stuff in the pipeline that would make Iraq/Afghanistan era tech look like Korean War items in comparison.
