That’s right.

Here’s a story you might find interesting.

I once read an article about a French fur trapper who worked the Great Lakes region around the time of the American Revolution. He was on good terms with all the natives. I don’t remember the names of the two Indian tribes in the article, so I’ll just use A and B.

One day the trapper went to visit his friends at Tribe A and couldn’t find them anywhere. So he canoed down to his friends at Tribe B.

“Where is Tribe A?” he asked the chief of Tribe B.
“We killed them all,” the chief replied.

(Tribe A gone. Tribe B now “owns” their land.)

I forget the details, but in one case (maybe yours since it was near the Great Lakes) they went hundreds of miles to kill the last member of ‘Tribe A’ who was hiding out with another tribe.

One reason teams are named after Indians is that while they were often our enemies, they were formidable enemies worthy of respect.
