In NYS it can cost thousands to insure a teen driver.That's because car insurance has largely turned into a "white people tax" --something that white people pay for but nobody else seems to bother with.
And premiums are priced accordingly.
Yeah, my premiums went through the roof when I added my son but he deserves to drive (and I rely on him to drive) so I coughed it up.
But yes, at some point, we should address the rising costs of auto insurance.

It has been high for a long time, and likely worse in part because teenage boys have a very high accident rate, but what used to be a $500 fender bender has now turned into a $15,000+ total, depending on what you get hot (or your own car if you cover collision). The un-insured motorist problem is a very big deal here in Arizona, bit the black people get hit hard too, as it is largely alien latinos not carrying the insurance at all (and running red lights).
