One of the things they don’t mention much is Apollo 13 or the color camera failure on the second mission to the moon of Apollo 12. Now if it was all fake why introduce some embarrassing failures into the mix? And how do I even remember the color camera failure of Apollo 12. It’s odd but it’s stuck in my memory because I remember Walter Cronkite and gang talking about it when it happened in real time. Apollo 11 had no live color tv feed only black and white and 12 was supposed to be an upgrade but the camera failed. It eventually happened on 14 and up but those and of course other glitches made it real. The Apollo missions were monumental and real.

Just to check I wasn’t hallucinating here is the wiki account of the Apollo 12 color tv camera problem.

Conrad and Bean carried the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package, a group of nuclear-powered scientific instruments, as well as the first color television camera taken by an Apollo mission to the lunar surface, but transmission was lost after Bean accidentally pointed the camera at the Sun and its sensor was burned out.
