Silly. The baby wasn't holding the hammer. The headline makes it clear that the mother was USING the hammer to hold the baby . . . maybe using it like a sling.

Why did the baby have a hammer? No, the mother was using a hammer to hold the baby. Probably using the claw to hold it up by the stinky back of the diaper. I know I would.
