Between the White House ballroom currently under construction, and the proposed Arc du Trump currently in the planning stage, Washington DC could look entirely different when President Trump leaves office. The classic elements are genuinely inspiring.

PRESIDENT TRUMP – “This beautiful building will be, when complete, the much-anticipated White House Ballroom — The Greatest of its kind ever built! It is a rendering from the Treasury Building, directly across the street, and replaces the very small, dilapidated, and rebuilt many times, East Wing, with a magnificent New East Wing, consisting of a glorious Ballroom that has been asked for by Presidents for over 150 years. Being an identical height and scale, it is totally in keeping with our historic White House. This is the first rendering shown to the Public. If you notice, the North Wall is a replica of the North Facade of the White House, shown at the right-hand side of the picture. This space will serve our Country well for, hopefully, Centuries into the future! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP“
Who do you think will be the first “guest of honor” at a state dinner using the completed ballroom?
One of the proposals for the Washington DC “Arch”

I don’t think Trump is worried about it being “unbalanced and ugly” his concern is more personal.
This structure will be functionally efficient, pleasingly esthetic and wholly in accordance with the White House architecture.
Hosting major events in or under a circus-like tent, in the heat/humidity or in freezing cold reflects badly on our Republic. Port-o-Potties on the White House lawn? Vulgar!
The Arch? We shall see what develops but for my part, adding a major attraction reflecting the greatness of our nation's values is a proper endeavor. Plus, they will likely bear the name of Trump, driving all the loonies more loony!
Unless such reviews are expressly omitted by law when the money comes from donors he would be wrong. The Trust would be wrong if the actual renovations are not being done to a building subject to those reviews. Which I believe is the case.
Interesting! Thanks
Of course it is. I'm all for celebrating it.
But do we have to celebrate it with a gaudy arch?
So you think something that is a national item is petty and shouldn’t be talked about?
bump for later
Who cares. America going Communist in the midterms is what I am thinking about.
I support the president. He is a transformative and amazing leader. I also have many years teaching, studying and making art. The arch is an abomination.
If you have read or seen The Fountainhead, Peter Keating comes to mind.
Sure, discuss and I in no way indicated I thought the addition is petty. Quite the opposite, I opined the ballroom is functional, necessary and appropriate. As well as largely privately funded. There are likely some gov’t agencies involved on the periphery, at some federal cost.
You used words like ‘gaudiness’ & ‘glam’ for the structure and in description of the president.
Unless some black-robed tyrant shuts it down, it’s going to be huuuuge! I look forward to the completion.
The ballroom looks more reasonable, but that arch, and the gold paint or leaf in the White House, is too much.
Trump loves his gold toilets, but that is not this country’s ethos.
All you Trump haters can go to hell!
I don’t like the arch either.
Alrighty... :)
The closest McDonalds to Marble Arch in London is around a mile away. And I don’t like McDonalds in Europe either.
Agree. His White House decorating and these renderings look more European than American.
One could negatively classify The Statue of Liberty as 'gaudy' or ostentatious - but thoughtful people weren't so judgmental back then. It was a gift and people were appreciative.
I believe the ballroom or anything else Trump backs just brings out the TDS in some people. A sign of the times in this internet world.
Okay, okay, the Egyptians did pyramids instead of arches......Or did they do arches, too?
