According to Gordon Chang, Xi has apparently lost control of the Chinese military. Things are volatile in China, their economy has completely collapsed after the sanctions. Unemployment has skyrocketed, buildings are collapsing. China is desperately trying to reach trade deals with the UK and Canada. Trump already warned Canada and they backed down.
