A Chicago man unable to swim plunged into the frigid waters of Lake Michigan to rescue an 8-month-old baby girl after strong winds blew her stroller into the lake.

The dramatic rescue unfolded Wednesday afternoon at Belmont Harbor near the 3200 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive in the Lakeview neighborhood, according to Chicago police and accounts from those involved.
Lio Cundiff, 30, a server at Oak and Honey restaurant and a stand-up comedian, was walking along the lakefront before his shift and talking on the phone with his aunt when he heard a woman scream. High winds had propelled a stroller carrying the infant into the water.
Cundiff dropped his phone, shed his jacket and jumped in.
“I immediately dropped my phone, threw my jacket off… So I thought, ‘I guess I’m going in,’” Cundiff told Block Club Chicago.

He reached the drifting stroller and held it above the water, prioritizing the baby’s safety.
“I just held the stroller up… I was thinking, ‘I’ve got to keep her head above water.’ I was just trying to keep her safe. That was my only thought,” he said.
Cundiff added that he resolved to stay with the child no matter what.
“At that point, I was like, if she’s going down, I’m going down with her… I couldn’t live with myself if that baby hadn’t made it.”
Bystanders joined the effort: One man, Luis Kapost, tossed his jacket to Cundiff to help him stay afloat while gripping the stroller. Another located a life preserver and lowered it into the water.

With collective help, the group guided Cundiff and the baby toward a ladder and pulled them to safety.
“It was a team effort… If it wasn’t for everyone being alert and helping, I don’t know what would’ve happened. I’m very thankful,” Cundiff said.
The baby, still strapped in the stroller, was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital for observation and was reported in good condition.

An upstate New York high school teacher was allegedly sidelined after she agreed to advise a Turning Point USA chapter on campus.
Jennifer Fasulo, a Spanish teacher at Charles W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, a Syracuse suburb, was placed on a paid leave of absence on Jan. 30, just weeks after she offered to help students establish a Club America, the high school division of the Charlie Kirk co-founded conservative group, her supporters say.
“The district can confirm that a staff member has been placed on paid administrative leave while a matter is under review. We are following established administrative and legal procedures, and we are unable to comment further or share additional details at this time,” the Baldwinsville Central School informed parents in a Feb. 10 letter.
Students rallied behind Fasulo, who they described in a petition demanding her return as a victim of spiritual and political discrimination.
“We believe no educator should be punished for their personal beliefs,” according to the appeal, which has more than 2,100 signatures as of Thursday.
“This teacher is being targeted not because of her performance, but for her political beliefs,” Club America President Jerry Dygert said at a Feb. 9 board meeting.
“Our club exists to promote political understanding through civil discourse, removing the one teacher who best embodies those values puts that mission in serious jeopardy.”

CBN reports concerned parents had asked Liberty Counsel to assist with the “confused and terrified” kindergarten and pre-K students at Mildred B. Poole Elementary School, part of the Department of Defense Education Activity, or DoDEA, district.
In a February 9 “demand” letter, Liberty Counsel alleged the “male, trans-identified” substitute teacher/teacher’s aide had “engaged in disturbing behavior” for about a year, which included wearing “feminine” clothes, a dog collar with “fetish tags,” and a tail.
The teacher also was accused of telling kids he “turns into a wolf at night,” that “he is ‘actually a woman’ who ‘likes boys,’” and that he required students to refer to him by some of his “wolf” names.
Some of these names included “Roxxanne Wildheart,” “Captain Roxxie,” and “savagebeastqueen.”
Other accusations included:
— After allegedly being reprimanded for wearing a tail, the teacher commented on social media “If I had a tail, I stg [swear to God]. Like an actual one, not a fake one like the ones I’m not allowed to wear to work anymore because people wanna be straight up pearl clutching bitches about it for no reason.”
— A student told her mom she was worried the teacher was “going to come eat [her]” because he told everyone “again” that he turns into a wolf at night.
— The teacher wore “black fishnet stockings, tights that are “shredded” or have holes in them, black miniskirts, [and] black combat boots” (in addition to the dog collar with fetish tags).
The letter also pointed to numerous examples of the teacher’s social media posts (many from his since-been-made-private Instagram) which feature sexually suggestive and violent narratives and images.
