the airplane punched a hole into the Pentagon, and indeed they found the airplane and the bodies, including that of Barbara Olsen (beloved of Freepers) there. She was on the phone when it hit.. The plane was found inside the building and parts of the engine and other debris were found in the parking lot.
The plane hit the area that had just had their walls/windows reinforced so the plane punched a hole through the wall but the rest of the wall didn't collapse immediately (it did collapse later)...Since it was being renovated inside, most of the offices were empty.
If you have even flown into Reagan airport, you can see why this was the area hit: The flight plan goes down the Potomac and the Pentagon was hit on the side near the Potomac.

Those old high walker guys give me the shivers. For the most part they had safety gear and didn’t really have to step out like that but many skipped the gear to speed things up.
