The Maine Community Foundation established the “Lewiston-Auburn Area Response Fund” to benefit survivors and families of the October 2023 shooting at a bowling alley that left 18 people dead and 13 wounded.
The group discovered, a year later, that nearly $2 million was distributed to 29 nonprofits, including organizations serving thieving Somali immigrant communities and one facing fraud allegations.
