A gun rights advocate says he has major concerns about the legality of the shooting Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti after watching footage of his killing.
Rob Doar, senior vice president of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, analyzed one of the several videos taken of the shooting of Pretti on Saturday and shared his damming opinion that the killing was unwarranted on social media.
Pretti, who was a US and an intensive care nurse who treated critically ill military veterans, was killed shortly after 9am on January 24, after an altercation involving multiple federal officers.
Video footage showed he was wrestled to the ground before one federal agent fired multiple shots into his chest, after which the agents scattered. The Department of Homeland Security told the Daily Mail that the suspect was armed with two magazines, and the gun was later recovered by federal authorities.
However, Doar noted that the gun may have been found moments before the altercation turned deadly: 'This video appears to show an agent remove a firearm from the holster of the 37-Y/O man (Pretti), prior to the shooting.'
'I never see the man touch his firearm, and it looks like he's disarmed before being shot, said the gun rights advocate in another post.
Doar told Star Tribune that he concluded that, 'If Mr. Pretti was disarmed — absent any other evidence of any risk to an officer —I don’t see how deadly force would be justified.'
The footage, which Doar analyzed, shows several masked agents wrestling Pretti while he is on his knees. An officer dressed in a grey coat and cap appears to pull an item from the protestor's waistline, which seems to be a pistol-shaped object; however, no evidence has confirmed the contents of the object at the time of this report.

“seconds” plural.
That’s a stretch. In the chaos of multiple agents trying to arrest him, he violently resists arrest after having been ID’s as armed, he then appears to reach - and it all happens within a second or so. You can see other officers reach for their weapon.
At worst, the officer that retrieved the weapon should have clearly, loudly, declared he had the gun - but the time from that moment to the shooting was around 1-2 seconds.
The only thing that matters; inject yourself into a chaotic situation with officers, then resist arrest while armed, you’re asking for one outcome.
HE WAS AN IDIOT. End of story. What are the officers supposed to do? Wait until he shoots? You can see other officers reached for their weapon, they thought he was still armed - which was reasonable.
I can see at least one other officer reaching for their gun too. It all happened quickly, they thought he was still armed.
How dumb can you be to resist arrest when armed?
Never heard of him...
Many don’t realize how brutal the weather was that day, I live here, I was in it.
It was so cold that it hurts your eyeballs, they water and cloud your vision.
An armed lunatic charged armed men. Textbook FAFO !
We in rural Minnesota applaud ICE.
“When I watched the video, it seemed like there was one gun shot and then a succession of maybe 7 more“
Yeah that jumped out at me. BANG! And then a fusillade. I thought, what the hell was this guy seeing!? If one gun firing it seemed odd. But a discharge then a response makes sense.
And “ gun rights”
I hope they step it up and shoot more of them. You get one warning and 10 seconds to comply. After that you get treated like the enemy and shot. Armed or unarmed, you’re dead. This is war.
Nothing from Minnesota is good. Nothing.
Why was Pretti so intent on preventing ICE from deporting a foreign felon in the US illegally? So intent that he would go to a riot and risk his life fighting over it.
What is known about Pretti’s political activity?
On the “disarming” — in real time it was about one second after the one handgun was removed. The verbalizations from the officer who lifted the gun would be interesting — did he announce that he’d removed the subject’s gun before the other officer fired? Maybe with all the protester noise, “I’ve got the gun” sounded like “he’s got a gun”. Looked to me like the removal occured on the other side of the scrimmage and would not have been visible to the shooter.
A guy pulls a gun on a Police Officer and gets shot, what the hell else did ANYONE think would happen?
Thanks, it looks like a grand total of TWO PEOPLE had firearms, one legally (even in DC) - and from what the DOJ posted, neither was shown to go into the Capitol Building.
The first guy, Christopher Alberts, a civilian, was a jerk with a gun, but he NEVER entered the Capitol Building.
The second guy, Mark Ibrahim, was a DEA agent, so he could legally have a gun in DC...did not go into the building, and had charges dismissed (i.e., the charges were politically motivated).
Kind of sad to have to deal with LEFTISTS here.
DIFFERENT INCIDENT-—BUT IT DID HAPPEN
WHEN RODNEY KING WAS FINALLY PULLED OUT OF HIS YUGO-—AFTER GOING OVER 108 MPH WITH 8 DIFFERENT POLICE GROUPS CHASING HIM-—
HE WAS FLAT ON HIS BACK WITH 4 LARGE OFFICERS TRYING TO HOLD HIM DOWN.
HE THREW ALL 4 OFF LIKE THEY WERE RAG DOLLS.
HE WAS LOADED WITH PCP.
LEAVING ID BEHIND IS ALWAYS A DECISION-—ESPECIALLY FOR A MAN WHO USUALLY CARRIES A WALLET IN HIS PANTS
PRETTY SURE MOST OFFICERS WOULD JUST SAY “GUN”
ALL OTHER OFFICERS WOULD KNOW THE MEANING OF THAT ONE WORD.
YOU WIN POST OF THE DAY-—MAYBE THE MONTH
I WONDER IF AUTOPSY WILL SHOW DRUGS IN HIS SYSTEM
STOP ANY THREAT BY AS MANY SHOTS AS THEY CAN TAKE.
HOW ABOUT 3 SECONDS,
“GUN” IS THE ONLY WORD NEEDED
