Gun rights advocate says DHS shooting of Alex Jeffrey Pretti 'does not appear justified' amid claims protester was disarmed seconds before he was killed
Daily Mail UK ^ | January 24, 2026 | JACK TOLEDO and JOSH BOSWELL

A gun rights advocate says he has major concerns about the legality of the shooting Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti after watching footage of his killing.

Rob Doar, senior vice president of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, analyzed one of the several videos taken of the shooting of Pretti on Saturday and shared his damming opinion that the killing was unwarranted on social media.

Pretti, who was a US and an intensive care nurse who treated critically ill military veterans, was killed shortly after 9am on January 24, after an altercation involving multiple federal officers.

Video footage showed he was wrestled to the ground before one federal agent fired multiple shots into his chest, after which the agents scattered. The Department of Homeland Security told the Daily Mail that the suspect was armed with two magazines, and the gun was later recovered by federal authorities.

However, Doar noted that the gun may have been found moments before the altercation turned deadly: 'This video appears to show an agent remove a firearm from the holster of the 37-Y/O man (Pretti), prior to the shooting.'

'I never see the man touch his firearm, and it looks like he's disarmed before being shot, said the gun rights advocate in another post.

Doar told Star Tribune that he concluded that, 'If Mr. Pretti was disarmed — absent any other evidence of any risk to an officer —I don’t see how deadly force would be justified.'

The footage, which Doar analyzed, shows several masked agents wrestling Pretti while he is on his knees. An officer dressed in a grey coat and cap appears to pull an item from the protestor's waistline, which seems to be a pistol-shaped object; however, no evidence has confirmed the contents of the object at the time of this report.

The point is that he had a gun. The liberal narrative is that he was an unarmed ICU nurse.

I’m a gun rights advocate too and I’d say 95% of FReepers are also, do we get equal time on the Daily Mail for our opinions?

President Trump, it is past time to declare martial law in Minnesota. The American people want you to clean house of the demonrats infesting our nation. We are waiting for you to do just that. If you don’t, the Left has won.

I can’t imagine that government has no idea where the funding is coming from- they have to- so why they aren’t doing anything to stop it is the question. Country is clearly at war - for survival-and government failing to stop the funding, arrest agitators driving the lies, end violent riots, and the little “GOP” shits in Congress intentionally voting against us- is all letting the demons advance. IMHO Government should be responding like we are at war- because we are. Just my opinion- sick and sad to see lack of cohesive effort to stop destruction at it’s root- if not doing that- none of the ’wins’ are going to matter. GOP allowed this for years by failing to ensure election integrity and by standing by and allowing all the small insidious ways left was working to brainwash people and change fundamentals. GOP has been like a parent who when confronted with issue “it’s awful that so many teen girls are allowed to dress like whores to go to prom” simply shrug and say- well that’s just how it is these days- ie weak and lazy going along to get along

Life is not stop motion, enhanced video. It happens in real time and the officers involved have only seconds, at best, to gauge a threat and act upon it. Yes, the evidence indicates that the individual had his gun removed a second before another agent shot him. Technically, unarmed, however the fact that he was resisting and carrying weigh the other side of the situation as well.

I watched the video, happy to hear arguments for ‘not justified’

1. This person was harassing ICE physically. He refused to maintain safe distance after being directed to do so MANY times.
2. He resisted arrest and restraint.
3. Several times when confronting officers he was reaching into or around his jacket.
4. He resisted while officers had him on the ground.
5. He came obviously to physically protest armed with a gun.

This doesn’t appear to even be a question, the officers absolutely had a deadly threat when he resisted arrest and started reaching.

The left gave interviews and awards after an officer shot an unarmed protester, with a backpack who tried to climb through a window without attempting to physically subdue them, because the thought them a risk from a backpack. This guy came with a gun and physically resisted officers. There shouldn’t even be a debate by the left, by there standards he should have been shot.

Moral of the story, don’t physically engage officers, resist arrest and restraint, and attempt to use a deadly weapon against them. That gets you dead.

No question, this wasn’t a “justice” issue, the guy was on a suicide mission, which he accomplished.
Not the behavior of a normal, healthy American male.

Sound like most Anti-farts are now not only “veterans without DD-214s, they are corklicking “gun rights advocates”. ROTFL. What does this taking out of an armed rioter have to do with gun rights? If the Pretti boy had left his Saturday night special home and brought his tromboner, he’d still be alive.

Kleon: “There were several people charged with carrying weapons into the Capitol, including loaded guns. I don’t think any of those people should have been executed on sight. “

There was not a single J6er who was charged with carrying loaded guns into the Capitol, please don’t lie. Even if it was true, a “charge” by the corrupt Garland’s DOJ means NOTHING about culpability. Who from the J6ers was convicted for carrying a gun into the Capitol, much less a “loaded gun”? Are you crazy?

And Pretti was not executed “on sight”, what are you even talking about?

“the Drudge Report is really fanning the flames.”

What in the hell happened to the Drudge Report? I used to go there several times a day, now it’s libtard central. Who even uses it anymore? I can’t image conservative using it, libs used to hate it and they are not exactly forgive and forget types, so I don’t see why anyone would patronize it.

The fundamental problem with the Senate is the 17th Amendment.

The fundamental problem with the House, from a conservative perspective, is that Conservatives are always focused on re-election, and Leftists are focused on both re-election and the wielding of power.

And from a Conservative perspective, the problems with Congress overall is that they are so enamored of the trappings of power (being famous, being invited to all the right parties) and the opportunity to get filthy rich from insider trading.

Leftists obviously focus on the filthy rich portion and the exertion of power, and Conservatives are so focused on being invited to all the right parties and the fame, that they are afraid to do their jobs, given the propensity of the media to put any Conservative at a disadvantage if they even open their mouths.

To sum it up in the context of this anarchy and disorder, Conservatives would like to investigate and root out the source of the money and organization, but are concerned they will be attacked and not be re-elected, and any attempts to investigate are thwarted and impeded by the Left, who want the disorder. Leftists are not interested in investigating, because not only do they already know where the money and organization comes from (and are complicit in it) that money and organization is the source of any political power they have.

Because in the case of Leftists, 80% of the American public is NOT on their side on nearly any issue ranging from taxes to censorship.

And that is why Trump turns Leftists into murderous, spittle-lipped lunatics, because he forces them to take the 20% side of an 80% public support issue. I love these memes, because they are so spot on:

It is possible that ICE made some mistakes here. On the other hand, this is an incredibly stressful environment. You watch/listen to the video and hear the constant sound of whistles. Extremely distracting. Add that to the obvious hostility of the protesters and it’s a wonder more mistakes aren’t being made.
