Hey Freepers in the path of stormagedden 2026....how ya doing?
Power outages? Impacts?
Here in north GA it's just a little chilly as we wait for the storm.
We were supposed to go to DC today. We moved leaving to Friday, but then the whole trip was cancelled 30 minutes before we left for the airport.
We had some business to attend to on Monday, and I was worried we’d make it to DC but we wouldn’t be able to get to our meetings.
I’m so relieved to be in my warm and cozy house instead of a hotel in DC.
Made my final firewood run and gas run yesterday and today.
Plenty of firewood as of yesterday.
No gas lines this morning.
I've brought in the first round of firewood....hopefully it'll be used for ambiance and not of need.
Yeah, it was a lot but we had it dealt with in 24 hours. I was still plowing for a municipality at the time. Now I just do my quarter mile driveway and one neighbor, should be no problem for my sixty horse tractor with the 6’ snowblower or my F 350.
Raleigh nc here. Hunkered down hoping for the best and hopefully prepared for the worst.
The fear porn in Atlanta is over the top. Most of the time these storms weaken as they come through Alabama and by the time they get to Atlanta they are considerably dissipated. Im hoping this will be true tonight.
The ones with a pink hue are the fluoride contrails.
Nothing yet. Sunny, clear, and COLD!!!!!
Didn’t get out of the single digits all day.
The snow is supposed to start here in NH midday Sunday. We’ll just make it home from church, but I do expect attendance to be down because of the cold and threat of snow. People will watch online.
If you’re on TikTok there are hilarious videos of HEB, and San Antonian’s reaction to the freeze. In Kerr County, it is 24° and dry. Some ice from last night’s thunderstorms.
The Freeper way!
So far I think Atlanta News First and Fox 5 have been the most balanced coverage. WSB hypes it the most.
Yesterday we woke up to -15. Not wind-chill. Just -15 on the thermometer. Today the cold water faucet in my kitchen froze. But I live in Wisconsin so I know to open the cabinet below and put in a space heater. A hairdryer works too.
Most things are closed. Not the stores. But schools were closed Friday. No reason. But people are getting soft. When its -15 we stay inside. We can still run errands. My car is fine. And we know how to dress.
I like to remember that Laura Ingalls and her family lived a few miles west of me in Wisconsin before they moved further west. They had no down parkas. They had no radiators. Just a one room mud and log house. With a stove and wood. The Indians had TPs. The cavemen 1000 years earlier had less. And the earth was colder in all those times than it is now.
So, my kitchen faucet seems a small discomfort. We have little snow. We know how to shovel and plow. Winter is a thing, every year. God gives you fewer chances in winter. But he does give you enough if you don’t waste them. You would not be alive today. If millions of people did not weather harsher winters with less comforts than we have. Just read “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich”. That gives you some perspective and stops your complaining.
Ya'll hunker down up there!
Nothing here in the the Charlotte area.
Its 63 degrees here in Northern California.
Outside all the time.
Shower? Nope.
Hot food? maybe.
And being shot at.
When you think about it like that this is an inconvenience.
34 inches so far this season. Near Grand Rapids Michigan. About 15 inches on the ground. 4 degrees now, headed down to zero.
your putative prep indicates to me that you must live in Charlotte, NC that and they’re predicting a couple of inches of snow there ... after all, everyone in Charlotte knows that predictions of snow always brings “shortages”, so everyone rushed out to stock up on ten times what they need ...
Yes, we were remarking on the lack of panic. I think its because last year these weather people had us all frightened to death that Hurricane Helene was coming with 90 mph winds. We didn’t even get a stiff breeze. I imagine this ice storm won’t be any worse than a million others.
Please do. My cousin lives in Mountain Home AR and I don’t hear from him much.
