He was at UVa early on. That’s when he created his “hockey stick” in collaboration with UK’s East Anglia CRU. Back when Va was sane, Allen state government I think. The AG sued UVa and Mann to release his data and algorithms based on the not unreasonable idea it was all paid for by public money. (UVa state university state taxpayer even pays professor salaries!) The local state Court sided with UVa and Mann and the rest is expensive history.
