We caved this year. Bought an automatic generator. I got tired of wheeling out the portable one, praying that it would start. It was a bit of upkeep. We would have to use it 5-6 times a year. Now I have peace of mind. Even when I’m out of town.

Agree with “peace of mind”. When buying our houses, we made sure to install whole-house Generacs. We might be iced in, or snowed in, but we’ll have power.

The one we have now is connected to city gas. The one before was propane which was a little concerning. If we were iced in, the propane truck was iced out. Fortunately, we never had a problem.
