I was quoted 2-3 year wait. Bought a nice necklace for my wife, and the submariner was available in 2 days.

That was the trick, wasn't it? You bought overpriced jewelry, 200% over wholesale, and the retailer suddenly moved you up the waiting list for a Sub!
