Consider that back in the late 1800s all of of the freedom seeker Swedes of the day sailed over to ground the tenents of the USA of the time.
I grew up in Washington state. Northwest Washington had several towns that were founded on being socialist. Tried and failed. Many Swedes and many Norwegians settled all across the northern United States from Minnesota all the way to Washington.
