In addition to those who travel there with the intent to commit suicide, I suspect there are others who are there trying to recapture childhood happiness, or are visiting a place that a loved one enjoyed, and then become overwhelmed. I also suspect it's on the bucket list of many people, and some who attend have severe health issues.

There might be a few emotionally fragile people who can't handle finding out their escapist fantasy is a construct.

Some people choose to kill themselves in a place they have an emotional connection with. This is especially true if they’ve gotten a terminal diagnosis and are going out on their own terms rather than a spur of the moment emotional crisis or long term depression.
