“There are many different layers to how sex offenders are processed,” Shamp, R-Surprise, told The Center Square. “There’s things that happen pretrial. There’s plea deals that are made. Probation gets involved, and then once probation comes into it, what level of sex offender they are is then generated. So I’ve been working to make sure that everyone that is a sex offender, whether they’re level 1, 2, or 3, are actually on the registry.”
The state senator has also been working to ensure that if someone commits a dangerous crime against a child, he or she will be punished.
In recent legislative sessions, Shamp was successful in getting several major child protection bills signed into law. These include Senate Bills 1232, 1236 and 1404.
SB 1232 classifies sexual conduct with a minor 12 or younger resulting in serious physical injury as a Class 1 felony, punishable by natural life imprisonment.

The National Fish and Wildlife Forensics Laboratory determined through a necropsy that the bird died from a collision with the turbine. Another eagle was found dead near the company’s Lincoln Land, Illinois turbine facility in April 2025. Necropsy results also showed that the bird’s death was consistent with a collision with the windmill.

Mamdani’s statement during his Thursday inaugural address came as no surprise. Mamdani made his authoritarian inclinations clear last November, when he won the New York City mayoral election and said this during his victory speech: “We will prove that there is no problem too large for government to solve and no concern too small for it to care about.” It was also clear several years before Mamdani ran for mayor, when in 2021 he reminded a socialist audience about “other issues that we firmly believe in, whether it’s BDS or whether it is the end goal of seizing the means of production.”
