That remains one of the saddest pictures in my lifetime (for me).
Can’t recall where I saw it (probably here on FR), but the real, unretouched photo of Tiananmen is horrifying. Every dark spot and rust-colored stain on the road was actually a dead body and that man was crossing the street carrying his shopping bags, stepping over them, when he stopped to face the tanks.
