TULSA, OKLA. (KTUL) — Repairs to multiple county overpass bridges along Interstate 44 and the Will Rogers Turnpike are nearing completion after an over-height commercial truck struck several structures earlier this month, transportation officials said.

Work continues Monday on the N. 4300 Road overpass northeast of State Highway 28, where eastbound I-44 traffic remains reduced to one lane.

The bridge is still closed to local traffic but is expected to reopen by Monday afternoon.

Crews are also preparing for overnight repairs at the N. 429 Road overpass near Adair.

Eastbound lanes of I-44 will be narrowed to one lane beginning at 5 p.m. Monday and are expected to reopen by 8 a.m. Tuesday.

That work includes flame straightening a damaged bridge beam.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority said six county overpasses between SH-266 near Verdigris and Vinita were damaged on Dec. 16 when an illegally over-height commercial vehicle struck multiple bridges.

Four of those bridges were initially closed while emergency repairs began.

About $415,000 in emergency repair work started Thursday night.

As of Monday, three bridges have reopened, with the final closure expected to lift later in the day.

Bridge status:

N. 4300 Rd. — Closed; expected to reopen Monday afternoon E. 530 Rd. — Open S. 4220 Rd. — Open N. 4310 Rd. — Open W. 370 Rd. — Open N. 429 Rd. — Open The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority said it is coordinating closely with Rogers and Mayes counties, the city of Claremore, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation as repairs continue.

One truck damaged 6 bridges. I guess he didn't know when to stop. Probably wasn't covered in the 2 hour video trucking school. Doesn't give name of driver. Trucking company should be responsible for the $400+K damages.

“Probably wasn’t covered in the 2 hour video trucking school.”

Nah, that comprehensive training video clearly said “If you hit a bridge, stop!” but the driver doesn’t read, write, or even understand English.

Nice turn of phrase.
