after they explained that the cats would not have a full range of motion and needed to to travel separately in bigger carriers. When was the last time an airline worried in the slightest about "full range of motion"? You could probably cram a half dozen cats under a seat to match their human seating rules.

since one could stow many more kitten cat karens
and still maintain their ‘range of motion’ and
there could also be a mouse number issue for in
flight snacks.
