The police chief at Brown University has been placed on leave as the school examines its response to a mass shooting that left two students dead.

University officials announced Monday that Rodney Chatman, the head of public safety at the school, was placed on leave effective immediately, and his day-to-day responsibilities were given to former Providence Police Chief Hugh Clements.

The decision comes amid intense scrutiny over the school's security policies in the wake of the December 13 mass shooting, during which students Ella Cook and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov were tragically killed and nine others left with injuries.

"Community Oriented Policing" is code for "don't expect anything for your tax dollars. Work within your "community" instead.

If you don't like the results, work within your community. If you still don't like the results, work within your community.

Brown University wanted no recordings that could stop the murderer.

Should have listened to the janitor!

“Brown University janitor says he warned security about suspicious visitor ahead of shooting”

“Guess the dei hire didn’t work out so well”

They never do. Stylish but incompetent, as a rule.

And our government, military and corporate functions have been tyrannically ruled by these DEI fools for 40 years. Is it any wonder that basic competence is so hard to find?

Take a look at today’s list of recalled U.S. ambassadors. 80% female or ethnic at least.

I’m absolutely sick of DEI BS.

Community oriented policing is a term that has been used for the past ten years or so

Community Policing has been around for over 30 years in Portland Maine. We have 5 Community Policing offices which are staffed by a Civilian Coordinator and a police officer who work together to keep tabs on activity. It would work if properly funded. (Portland has had an ongoing officer shortage since 2019). Some of our cops ride bikes (real bikes, not electric crap) in the summer and can sometimes get to problems quicker. It has actually been around since the formation of police departments.

Think Officer Krupke in West Side Story. Walked a beat and knew almost everyone who lived there.

It works if the rest of the system works. I.e. arresting and getting the bad guys off the streets, work with the kids who are moving in that direction, etc.

You are correct.

I was thinking of the 3C policing: Cops, Community, and Computers. This was the basis of the COIN stuff they were doing in Iraq.

But the “Community Policing” thing HAS been around for a longer time.

he (his temp. replacement) is 'nationally regarded for his expertise in community-oriented policing.'

Another liberal buzzword that has NO meaning; community oriented policing???

Guess the dei hire didn't work out so well

And because of DEI, even if he was the best qualified candidate for the job, he is assumed "DEI" anyway.

Very unfair to POC who have achieved on merit.

I joined the Portland ME public works engineering department in my younger days, quite excited to learn about the intricacies of civil engineering and utility infrastructure.

It wasn’t long before I realized what a bunch of slugs I was working with: marginally qualified, ridiculously lazy and entitled.

I lasted for about a year, and yes I liked having that Crown Victoria at my disposal for zipping around town to visit job sites under construction.

The one valuable lesson I learned from the experience which I have put to good use over and over again is: if you want to get something out of a public employee, make sure you don’t cause them extra work, or make them look bad. It never fails.

In working for the DoD for over 30 years I could count on one hand how many blacks deserved the jobs and promotions they earned through actual merit.

Maybe I’m just jaded.

My circumstances were kind of unique when I worked in government. It was during the entire Alaska Pipeline project. Everything was booming, and we worked our butts off. New infrastructure, subdivisions, roads and drainage, businesses, etc. It was insane, and the most fun of my life.

Doesn’t “on leave” mean an unexpected vacation?
