“Being a Christian was not easy when St. Nicholas was born in 270 A.D. The Romans considered Christians to be a lower class of people. As a bishop, Nicholas had to guide his flock through horrible persecution.
Despite these harrowing trials, Nicholas became famous for his generosity and secret gift giving. One story tells of a father who was unable to pay his three daughters’ dowries. Due to his poverty, he faced the unimaginable decision of selling his daughters into servitude.
Hearing the family’s plight, Nicholas went to their house in the night, tossing purses of gold coins through the window. It is said that one of the purses landed in the stockings hung by the fireplace to dry, starting the tradition of hanging stockings for Christmas.”
Catholic teaching states there is a communion of saints. That said, st Nick watches over gift giving and generosity at Christmas
No one has to believe this.
I do. It is the spirit that moves in when people don’t have time, money or energy to get it together for Christmas.

Good for you. I shall, too.
Merry Christmas!
