One negative I might add. It’s a lot of work to heat with wood, cutting, splitting, stacking and replenishing the hoops on the porch about once a week. Good exercise though.

Good honest work. You can skip the gym for a while. We're fortunate that we have a couple of old carports along the side of the house with a sliding door opening out to them, so we stack the wood under there, but we have a big rack on the front porch as well.

I’m 75 and still cutting, hauling, splitting and stacking. I have 6 cords of dry seasoned oak and hickory stacked. I was very fortunate this year since about 2 acres of woods were cleared for building a house and I got all of the wood that was not sold for lumber, about half of what was cut. The tree service had to get rid of the logs that the mill won’t buy, and the building lot was only 1/4 mile away. The guys delivered it onto our property for free. Well, not really, 2 cases of beer. We probably have a dozen cords in addition to the 6 cords split and stacked. I won’t have to get firewood for the next 4 or 5 years.
