Two centuries ago is not ancient.
The Russians supported the United States in its major wars because the Russian people have the same traditional values as Americans.
We still have these values, and so do the Russian people.
This is why our Great President Trump is working with Putin through backchannels to kill globalism.
And to answer your question, totalitarians tend to imprison everyone.

(What are the personal implications if the Resurrection of Christ is a true event in history?)

By today's standards, it's ancient. Things that occurred 2 centuries ago might not even get started in today's world.
2.5 centuries ago (give or take), the U.S. didn't exist. Now it's the greatest country that ever existed. So, going back 2 or 3 centuries, what transpired since then was inconceivable, therefore, the ancient history is not relevant to the current world. History does teach many major lessons, but 'friendships' of the past cannot be considered as still relevant.

The Russians have been our enemy since WW2, no matter what occurred in 'ancient' history.
The Russian people do not understand what it means to live under the same freedoms we enjoy in the U.S. Living under tyrannies or under dictatorships. does not allow the people to understand how other nations/governments operate.
