Yes, and the Chinese middle class is a great deal happier than ours. Their cities are now more beautiful, and innocent young girls don’t get their throats cut while using the subway.
Are they living in raised ranches with driveways and two cars in the garage? No. But they, overall, can afford food, aren't taxed on they property until death, can afford a doctor's trip, can afford restaurant meals and new clothes, etc.
And, really, the only the very few in the United States (who didn't acquire it 20, 30, 40 years ago) have all the nice things we once had. And many, many more are only hanging on to it by a thread.

In China as in the USA, the middle class people— people older than 50 are generally in fairly good shape. Its the people between 20 and 40, who are in their prime family formation years —who are having a hard time of it
