I had a friend in college who was gay. He played Bassoon, and French for Bassoon is "Fagot". The sheet music always has the name of the instrument at the top, and I used to tease him, "Faggot".

Ha ha ha! When I was a kid, that instrument certainly would have been classified as “a bully magnet”! (Here’s hoping that the instrument case didn’t have a generally phallic shape!)
