My hitch ran from 1969 to 1975. I was a scared,clueless 19 year old in BCT. Vietnam was my biggest fear (by far) but,thankfully,I was never ordered to SE Asia. Another one of my fears was "don't drop the soap". But,thankfully,I never encountered anything like that...I never saw anything like that...and I never even *heard* of anything like that.
I wonder if guys today experience anything like that.

I was a Headquarters POG, late '80s, early '90s. One of the things I had to do was process the mail. At that time, the fastest way to get out of the Marine Corps was to declare one was gay.
It took a couple of weeks to process, and this guy was writing stuff on the outside of his letters to his WIFE, like "I'm Coming Home Soon, Honey!", "Love You, See You Soon!"
I picked up on this, showed them to the LT, got that guy an expedited Big Chicken Dinner.
