An IHOP cook has been charged after allegedly shooting two teenage porch pirates outside his home as they ran away with packages.
Rakim Bradford, 34, opened fire after he came to the door to collect a delivery outside his townhouse in Atlanta and saw three youths he believed were trying steal it.
He called a co-worker after the shooting and told them he was cleaning his gun when he got a notification that the delivery had arrived, according to the arrest warrant.
The colleague told police that Bradford said he went to get the package holding his gun, and it 'went off'. He believed he hit one of the teens in the back as they ran.
Bradford fled his house after the shooting and wasn't there when police arrived about 3.30pm on Wednesday, but later turned himself in to a police station.
'We believe a property crime was occurring, that some packages were being taken off of a front porch,' Atlanta Police Chief Darren Sherbaum said.
'The homeowner did discharge his weapon to stop that theft of the packages.'
Whether Bradford, the head chef at a local IHOP who studied at the Culinary Institute of America, owned the two-storey townhouse or was renting it is unclear.
Bradford was on Friday charged with two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Police found one shell casing at the scene when they searched the Villages of Cascades gated community in Atlanta's western suburbs.
How many shots were fired is unclear.

No, nor in Florida. Florida sheriffs encourage home owners to ventilate invaders and at least one sheriff from the Panhandle has offered shooting instruction to his constituents. Gotta love those Florida sheriffs!
No. I’m not giving legal advice, but my opinion based on training and writings of many professional trainers of civilian defenders, and supported by my reading many stories like this over time and the consequences falling upon defenders.
I am not aware of any area in which it’s OK to let lead fly wherever and not directed at a threat.
Feel free to provide your opinion also but maybe stop pretending you’ve doxxed everyone — the ad hominem makes you appear a stalker trying to stifle opinion through personal attack.
Mr. Bradford needs to be pardoned by the George Governor or President Trump!

I DO NOT have to like or agree with the current legal system that says if someone comes onto your property to steal something that belongs to you, as long as you don’t feel your life is in danger, you should just wave and smile as they go. So it’s your car that you need to get to work. Maybe your pickup that has all your tools to do your job. As long as “your life is not in danger” just wave goodbye as they go.
If these scumbags knew there was a GOOD CHANCE they would be shot dead there would be a less of this shit happening.
When I shot both barrels of buckshot into the ground they knew I meant business. I reloaded and pointed right at the biggest one and said “I’m going to blow your head off!” They beat feet jumped into their truck and were gone, but I got the plate number. Even if they were armed, they would not have time to grab their gun, aim and shoot. I never killed anyone, but I would not have hesitated to make good of my threat.
