291 gallons of fuel do not produce 40 tons of CO2.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Producing forty tons of CO2 from one ton of fuel is quite the magic trick.
Is there anything Climate Change can't do?
Maybe that's why the article included the weasel word when it stated, "... about 291 gallons of fuel every hour, which allegedly emits 40 tons of CO₂"
Not a Zuck fan but 300 gal of diesel might produce 3 tons of CO2. At least he’s feeding my forest.
Thank you for recognizing that modern journalists never learned even the most basic scientific facts. At most 291 gallons of diesel fuel could produce 291 x 7.1 pounds of carbon, assuming that the fuel was 100% carbon, which it isn't, combined with the proportionate amount of oxygen.
According to the EPA each gallon of diesel fuel generates about 22.4 pounds of CO2. So the actual CO2 output of the yacht per hour is 6,518.4 pounds, or about 3.26 tons of CO2 per hour.
That still seems like a lot of CO2 generation just for an hour of recreation for somebody who presumably claims to be concerned about global warming, but that's typical for the "fly my jet to Davos to talk about global warming" club.
