We owned some cheap no-name encyclopedia that I think came like a Book of the Month Club package. We sure never owned the Britannica!
My parents bought an encyclopedia set when I was about second grade, and the World Book encyclopedia several years later. The only encyclopedia I have bought is only 5 volumes (Der Kleine Pauly Lexikon der Antike...excellent resource).
