In most of our history, we had kings and queens. In a sense, many of us are programmed to genuflect to royal personages. Diana unlocked that primitive reflex in a way that her mother-in-law never did.

It is (however imperfectly) in our nature to bend the knee before Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords.

To some extent, that influences our attitude towards merely human authorities whether they call themselves kings or sheikhs or presidents or ...
