Hubby is a California guy. When we moved to TN, he was uneasy about the kindness and friendliness of the people here. He asked me, “What do they want?” In CA, when people are nice to you, it’s usually because they want something. Default mode is rude. NY gets the bad rap for rudeness, but CA may be worse.
I had to explain that they’re just NICE. There’s no hidden agenda.
