“...in the early 60’s...”
What I was describing was central California in the early 50’s. It was a good life and I wish my kids could have witnessed parts of it. It’s dramatically different now with more people, less ranch property, and a horde of illegals.
What I have now is western Washington near JBLM and many times that lack of electricity problem still exists here when they go down or the grid goes tango uniform...often. Might as well not be available. And worse than that I am wasting calories with my diabetes so I seldom consume any ice cream anymore. I will still make it occasionally for family functions, but I can’t eat it. And it does tease me.

FWIW, I lived in Aneheim in 1963. You could see the Materhorn at Disneyland from my home, across the freeway from Disneyland. And between my home and the Materhorn was my grade school. Across from that was a huge orange orchard. I kid you not.
BTW, I lived a couple of blocks from the Seahawks training building back in 1997. We could look across the lake and see Mercer Island (the “rich” part of the Seattle area). Every time we had a bad storm, the island went dark.
Kinda funny because now that I live in Rural Kentucky, we have a lot more lightning storms, yet in the 14 years we’ve lived here the power has gone out three times. And then, very briefly.
