When I was a kid, we didn’t have electric anything. Even the ice box was an ice box. And we had swamp coolers, and fires to bar-b-que with, not rotisserie so the meat was turned on a spit. I think it tasted better anyway if you had to salt the ice to churn the hand crank churns. Hot day, BBQ chicken with potato and macaroni salad, corn on the cob, and hot apple or berry cobbler on the side of that ice cream. Nap shortly after.

You described my world as a child in the early 60’s in the Washington state desert. But we did have electricity. We just used it for stuff like TV’s and Radios.
