Western civilization has officially lost the plot. Beginning January 1, Somalia—a nation synonymous with state failure, piracy, jihadist control, and systemic human-rights abuses—will assume the presidency of the United Nations Security Council. No, this is not satire. As David Strom noted, reality has now surpassed parody.
The United States must leave the U.N., because there is no compromise between food and poison—only death—and in every compromise between good and evil, evil is the only thing that ever profits (paraphrasing Ayn Rand.)
Somalia ranked the worst country in the world on the Failed State Index last year, large swaths of its territory remain under al-Qaeda–linked militia control, and 95 percent of Somali girls aged 4 to 11 are subjected to genital mutilation, according to Hillel Neuer. This is the regime now tasked with helping set the global security agenda.
According to All Africa, Somalia’s presidency will allow it to chair high-level meetings, oversee debates on counterterrorism, guide peacekeeping discussions, and influence decisions on regional stability and humanitarian crises. In other words, a country that cannot govern itself—or protect its own women and children—is now positioned to lecture the world on security and human rights.
It is a head slapper but it's only for the month of January 2026. The presidency of the Council is held by each of the members in turn for one month.
