OMG! I LOVE that man! His comebacks are legend and he reminds me of a more raw version of my Dad, who could somehow wrap an insult inside a compliment, and the receiver often didn’t perceive the insult. His Dad was British and I think they perfected the dichotomy of insults that sound extremely polite. The closest I can come to something similar is a post someone made (maybe nclaurel?) saying that Southerners were very good at this too with comments like “Bless his heart. He can’t help being an idiot.” Anything that starts with “Bless his heart” tends to make you forget everything after it because you just remember the blessing.
